LudoLivePlay online

Privacy Policy

This policy covers the whole site — LudoLive and its sister game Snakes & Ladders. Neither game needs an account or your personal details to play; this page explains, in plain language, what information is involved and where it goes.

The short version: no accounts and no data selling. Your profile, settings and statistics stay in your own browser. We measure visits with Google Analytics, which only sets cookies if you accept them. The site shows ads served by Google AdSense, which uses cookies as described under Advertising below.

What we don't collect

  • No registration — we never ask for your email, phone number or password to play.
  • No selling or sharing of personal data with data brokers.
  • No game moves, chat messages or room codes stored on a server of ours.

Data stored on your device

Your display name, avatar, favourite colour, theme, dice skin and board theme, sound preferences, saved unfinished games and match statistics are kept in your browser's local storage on your own device. Snakes & Ladders keeps its own, separate storage for its settings, house-rule choices and statistics. None of it is sent to us. You can erase it by clearing site data in your browser, or with the reset option in Ludo settings or Snakes & Ladders settings.

Online multiplayer connections

Online rooms use peer-to-peer connections (WebRTC) between the players' browsers. To introduce those browsers to each other, a signalling service (PeerJS) relays a temporary session identifier, and public STUN servers (currently Google's, and Twilio's when a relay server is configured) see your public IP address so a direct connection can be made. During a match, the display name and avatar you chose are visible to the other players in your room. Moves and messages travel between the players' devices and are not stored once the match ends.

Hosting and technical logs

Our hosting provider, Vercel, may keep short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses and requested URLs) for security and abuse prevention. These logs are not used to build profiles of players.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how many people visit and which pages they find useful. It records the pages you open and the general information every browser sends — approximate location derived from your IP address, device type, browser and screen size — plus anonymous events about how the games are used, such as a match starting or a dice roll.

We never send personal data to Analytics: no display names, no chat messages, no email addresses. Room codes are stripped too — only the page path is reported, never the query string, so an invite link never reaches Google. IP anonymisation is switched on. Our Analytics configuration sets Google's advertising consent signals (ad storage, ad user data and ad personalisation) to denied and enables ad data redaction, and Analytics data is not used to build ad audiences.

Cookies and your choice

The first time you visit, a banner asks whether Google Analytics may store cookies on your device. Analytics stores nothing before you answer.

  • Accept — Analytics may set its own cookies (the _ga family), which let it recognise a return visit and count you as one visitor rather than two.
  • Decline — Analytics keeps running in a cookieless mode: your visit is counted anonymously and Analytics writes nothing to your device. This is also what happens before you answer the banner.

You can change your mind at any time from Settings → Privacy; the choice covers both games, and “Reset all data” there clears it along with everything else. This banner covers Google Analytics only. Cookies used by Google's advertising code are described in the next section, along with how to opt out of them.

Your preferences, profile and statistics use your browser's local storage rather than cookies — they are functional, they stay on your device, and they are not part of the choice above.

Advertising

The games are free to play, and advertising helps pay for them. Ads are served by Google AdSense. They sit around the page content — never over the board, the dice or the chat — and they never interrupt a turn. We do not receive or store the browsing history that advertising cookies represent, and we never pass Google your display name, avatar, chat messages or room codes.

Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and you can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Contacting us

If you send a message through the contact page, the name, email address and message you type are delivered to our inbox by Resend, our email provider. They are used only to reply to you, and are never added to a mailing list or shared with anyone else. Sending the form is optional — the games work without it.

Children

Both games are family-friendly board games. Because they need no account and we ask for no personal information to play, there is nothing a child has to hand over — but younger players should still play online only with people they know.

Third-party services we use

This is the complete list:

  • Google Analytics 4 — visitor measurement, as described above.
  • Google AdSense — serves the advertising on the site, as described above.
  • Google Fonts — the Sora, Manrope and Baloo 2 typefaces, served from our own domain at build time rather than fetched from Google while you browse.
  • PeerJS and public STUN servers — introduce players' browsers to each other so an online room can connect, as described above.
  • Resend — delivers contact-form messages to our inbox.
  • Vercel — hosts the site and keeps the short-lived technical logs described above.
