How to Play Ludo with Friends Online

There are two ways to play Ludo with friends on LudoLive: a private online room that 2 to 6 players join from their own devices, or one phone passed around the table. This page covers setting up both.

Start an online game with friends in three steps

  1. Open Play Online and tap Create room. Pick a table size — anywhere from 2 to 6 seats.
  2. Share the 8-character room code or tap Invite to send a link. Friends enter the code (or just open the link) and appear at your table in realtime.
  3. Once everyone is seated, the host taps Start game. Every dice roll, move and capture syncs live for all players.
Rooms are private: there is no public matchmaking and no player list — only people you give the code or link to can join your game.

Pick the table size: 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 players

Ludo isn't only a four-player game here. When you create a room — or set up a pass & play match — you choose how many play:

  • 2 players — a fast head-to-head duel, ideal for a quick match.
  • 3 or 4 players — the classic square board everyone knows.
  • 5 players — a pentagon board, drawn so each player still gets their own corner, colour and home column.
  • 6 players — a hexagon board for the full table. Same rules, more chaos.

The rules are identical at every table size, so nobody has to learn anything new when a fifth or sixth friend joins.

Talk to your friends while you play

Online matches come with in-game messaging: quick one-tap phrases for the moments that need them, emoji reactions, and a short typed message box for everything else. Messages appear next to the sender's seat, travel directly between players, and aren't stored once the match ends. It's the table banter of a living-room game, kept inside the game.

Everyone in the same room? Pass one device around

If your friends are physically with you, you don't need an online room at all. Play with Friends is a pass & play mode for 2 to 6 players sharing a single phone, tablet or laptop. Each player picks a name, avatar and colour, the active seat glows so nobody loses track of whose turn it is, and no internet connection is needed.

What happens if someone disconnects?

Online rooms reconnect dropped players automatically and restore their seat with the same room code. If a player stays offline, their turn is played after 30 seconds so the rest of the table isn't left waiting. If someone can't connect at all, or an invite link opens inside a chat app, the online rooms troubleshooting guide walks through the fixes. And if a friend can't make it, you can practise against the AI instead.

Common questions about playing with friends

How do I create a private Ludo room?

Open Play Online, tap Create room and choose a table size of 2 to 6 seats. The room gets a unique 8-character code and an invite link — share either one, and friends who enter the code or open the link take a seat in your room. Only people with the code can join.

Do my friends need to download anything or sign up?

No. Friends just open the invite link or enter the room code in their browser — on any phone, tablet or computer. Nobody needs an app, an account or a login.

Can someone join after the game has started?

No. Once the host starts, the room is closed to newcomers — anyone who tries sees a Match Already Started message. The table size is fixed when the room is created, so pick the number of seats you need before sharing the code.

What if the host has to leave?

The host can hand the room over to another player, who becomes the new host and the match carries on, or close the room for everyone. If the host just refreshes the page, the room reopens under the same code.
