Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers to the questions LudoLive players ask most — including the moves that surprise people. Can't find yours? Ask us via the contact page.

Is LudoLive free? Do I need an account or an app?

It is free, with no purchases, subscriptions or pay-to-win items. There is no account or login, and nothing to download: the game runs in your browser on phones, tablets and computers. You can optionally add it to your home screen from the browser menu.

Is LudoLive the same as PlayLudoLive?

Yes — same game. LudoLive lives at playludolive.in, so it is sometimes written as PlayLudoLive.

How do I play with friends online?

Open Play Online, create a room for 2 to 6 players, and share the 8-character code or the invite link. Friends join from their own devices, and the host starts the game once every seat is filled. The full walkthrough is in playing Ludo with friends.

Can several of us play on the same phone?

Yes. Play with Friends is pass & play for 2 to 6 players on one device, each with their own name, avatar and colour. It needs no internet connection.

How many players can play?

Two to six in online rooms and pass & play. Against the AI you can face one to five computer opponents. Five-player tables use a pentagon board and six-player tables a hexagon, with the same rules as the square board.

How good is the AI?

There are three levels. Easy often plays a random legal move, Medium plays well but slips now and then, and Hard always plays its best-scoring move and weighs every threat. The strategy guide explains what the AI looks for.

Why can't I move this token?

Usually one of three reasons: a token in the yard needs a six to come out; a token near home needs the exact number, and a bigger roll would overshoot the last square; or the token has already finished. Only tokens that can legally move pulse. If no token can use the roll, your turn passes automatically. The rules have the details.

Why didn't my two tokens block my opponent?

LudoLive has no blocking rule. Your tokens may share a square, but a stack doesn't stop anyone passing, and an opponent who lands on it off a safe square captures the whole stack. The rule differences guide compares this with house rules that do use blocks.

Why did every token on a safe square go home?

A safe square holds at most four tokens. When a move leaves five or more on one, the square gives way and every token on it returns to its yard, including the one that just arrived. It isn't a capture, so it doesn't earn an extra roll by itself.

Why didn't I get a third six?

A turn holds at most two sixes. After your second, the next roll is dealt from 1 to 5 and your turn carries on — nothing is forfeited, unlike the three-sixes penalty some families play.

Are the dice fair?

Yes. Each player draws from their own shuffled set of dice faces, so every number comes up its full one-in-six share, while long streaks and droughts are rarer than with a physical die. Nothing is scripted, and the dice are dealt only by the device running the match, so no player can see or steer a future roll. The rules page explains exactly how it works.

My invite link opened inside WhatsApp or Instagram. What should I do?

Many apps open links in their own built-in browser. When LudoLive recognises one, it offers to open the link in your real browser or to copy it. You can also use the app's menu to open the page in Chrome or Safari, or type the room code in Play Online instead. The troubleshooting guide has the steps for each app.

A friend can't connect to my room. What can we try?

Check that the code is right and the room isn't full or already started. If one player can never connect while others can, their network is probably blocking direct connections: switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, turning off a VPN, or using a phone hotspot usually helps. Every connection message is explained in the troubleshooting guide.

What happens if I lose connection during a game?

The game tries to reconnect you automatically and keeps your seat. Refreshing the page also puts you back in the same room. If a player stays away, their turn is played after 30 seconds so the rest of the table isn't stuck.

Can I chat during an online match?

Yes. The message button opens quick one-tap phrases, emoji and a short typed message box, and tapping another player's avatar sends them an animated reaction. Messages go directly between players and are not stored after the match.

What happens after the first player finishes?

The match keeps going. The first player home takes first place and the others race on for second, third and so on. The last player left is placed automatically.

Can I play with a keyboard?

Yes. Space or Enter rolls the dice, and keys 1 to 4 move your first to fourth token when that token can move.

Does it work offline?

Play with AI and pass & play keep working without a connection once the page has loaded. Online rooms need everyone to be connected.

I cleared my browser data and my stats are gone. Can I get them back?

No, unfortunately. With no accounts, your profile, settings and statistics live only in that browser's storage, so clearing site data or using Reset all data erases them, and a different browser or device starts fresh.

Is there Snakes & Ladders too?

Yes. Snakes & Ladders — Jungle Edition is a separate game on the same site, with its own AI, pass & play and online modes, and its own settings and statistics.
